BEHAVIOUR CHALLENGE: Promoting sustainable and multimodal commuting to citizens of Konya, Turkey
The city of Konya faces significant challenges related to urban congestion and over-reliance on private vehicles. To tackle this, the city aims to encourage its citizens to adopt more sustainable and multimodal transportation habits. This includes promoting the use of public transport, cycling, and walking, with the ultimate goal of reducing traffic congestion, air pollution, and dependence on cars.
This initiative is part of Konya’s broader effort to create a healthier, more sustainable city, addressing both environmental and quality-of-life concerns. The project also aligns with global efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change and enhance urban mobility.
SMART NUDGE: Implementing nudges for multimodal mobility in various digital channels
Gamification elements, with a playful theme, were used to engage citizens and guide them to the Smart Nudges platform, enhancing participation and interest. The theme was used across multiple channels to ensure wide reach, including social media, public transport and municipality webpages, the official app of the city, and a large cube-formed digital display in a prominent square.
The platform provided personalized content to Konya’s citizens, offering smart tips and encouraging nudges that highlighted the benefits of more sustainable and multimodal transport. The project is part of Konyas commitment to the European Mobility Week, and is supported by EIT Urban Mobility and its RAPTOR program. It is set to run for several weeks, aiming to foster a long-term shift towards more sustainable commuting.
RESULTS: Coming soon
The project is still ongoing and collecting data to be analyzed.
In Helsingborg, we are constantly trying to develop our methods to help more people discover the benefits of active travel. School children are a particularly important group because their bodies have such a great need for movement. It was very exciting and educational to try something new together with Nudgd, who have a lot of expertise in digital nudging.
