BEHAVIORAL CHALLENGE: Encourage people to adopt more sustainable and climate-friendly travel habits by reducing car commuting.
In 2022, Region Gotland, in collaboration with Gotlandshem, participated in the Mobility BPI project. The project aimed to investigate whether sustainable mobility can be encouraged through nudging.
SMART NUDGE: Platform for smart travel habits
642 regional employees based in Visby were offered the opportunity to participate in the project. Using the Smart Travel Habits platform (Resvana) we sought to develop and test a model called the Behavioral Change Potential Index (BPI) to facilitate and optimize the opportunity for individuals to create more sustainable and climate-friendly travel habits in their everyday lives.
RESULTS: 14% reduction in car commuting
The goal of the project was to reduce car use by 10 %, which was considered to have been achieved and exceeded. The evaluation of the project showed that car commuting was reduced by 14%.
- More than 35% of users indicated that the service contributed to some extent to their choice of transport mode in everyday life.
- Overall, those using the service reduced their annual CO2 emissions by 72.44 kg/person.
35 %
stated that the service contributed to some extent to their choice of transport in their daily lives.
