Melina Johansson, Academy and Communications Manager.

Hey Melina, welcome to our team!

Why do you find working with sustainability interesting?

Lately, I’ve begun to truly understand how everything is interconnected, and how the three dimensions of sustainability – environmental, social, and economic – are mutually dependent on each other. Working with sustainable development for the well-being of people and the health of the planet feels meaningful. Because in the end, it’s about the kind of world we actually want, and how we want to live our lives.

What sparked your initial interest in nudging and behavioral science?

As a trained sustainability developer with many years of experience in communication, I’m driven by the question: How do we make it happen? And I believe nudging can be an effective approach because it is grounded in behavioral science. To facilitate change, we need to consider how people actually behave when faced with choices—and help them, with positive intent.

What do you bring to the organization?

To create real change, it’s not enough to know what is sustainable – we also need to reach people and make it easy to act. With knowledge in sustainability development and 15 years of experience in communication, I can help make sustainable choices simple and understandable, so that sustainability goals are actually translated into action.

What’s your favorite nudge, and why?

Nudging with playfulness! With a little creativity, you can nudge everyday tasks to become more fun and therefore easier to do. Like framing the laundry basket into a basketball goal – then it will be fun to score correctly! It activates the brain’s reward system and the resistance instead becomes something pleasurable when the socks land right in the goal basket.

What do you do when you’re not working?

I head out into the woods! Preferably with family and friends—there’s something so good about simply being together in nature.

Welcome to the team, Melina!
