Project Manager & Business Developer, Nudgd AB
Hi Mattias and welcome to the team!
Thank you so much! Great fun to be a part of! It is exciting to join a team with so much competence and drive. Everyone supports each other and it feels safe to meet customers and partners when you feel that together with this team you solve most things.
What are the most exciting sustainability trends right now according to you?
In general, I think that the growing awareness and demand for sustainable products and services, both from organizations and individuals, is exciting. I think that consciousness is not reversible – once you have become aware you cannot become unconscious. This also means that there are many opportunities to develop business ideas that are based on sustainable development, which is a prerequisite for getting real speed on the transition.
What made you interested in nudging and behavioral science in the first place?
As a recent graduated engineer, I immediately began to think about how I could work with people instead of machines. I started my career by burning coal for energy production. At that time, there was not much talk about sustainability but rather about the environment and it was obvious that the energy sector had a significant negative impact on the environment. It became clear to me that I needed to know more about how energy is used and what driving forces control the consumption of energy and the possibility of changing it.
I started working as a consultant in efficient energy use and got to meet decision makers, operating staff, production staff, etc. in, among other things, the real estate sector, hospitals and industry. The task was to optimize customers energy use and it was clear that management and employees’ awareness and behavior were at least as important as the technical solutions.
Since then, I have been working with sustainability issues in various ways throughout my life. Sustainable development requires that we change our habitual behavior. Change is ”hard” and through knowledge of behavior and with nudging as a tool we can make it easy (less hard) to do the right choices.
What added value are you aiming to bring to the organization?
As a person, I want to contribute with creativity and commitment, a curiosity to meet people and a desire to understand people and what drives our decisions and our behavior.
In terms of competence and experience, I bring with me many years of experience of both operational and strategic sustainability work in various organisations and fields. As something of a special competence, which can be used, I want to mention energy efficiency and environmental/sustainability management in construction projects.
My hope is that with my experience I can contribute to further broadening and developing our products and services.
What is your favourite nudge?
I like the simplicity of ”default” nudges. You need to put in some effort to go the ”wrong way”.
What do you do when you are not working?
I have always been a person who has a lot going on and much of it has been associated with nature and its forces, not infrequently with a board under my feet. Windsurfing has been a big part of my life for over 35 years and I have spent many hours on the water. Favorite spots are Apelviken, Varberg and Pozo, Gran Canaria, Spain. Snowboarding is another passion that has taken me around the world, Austria, Italy, USA, Canada, France and of course Riksgränsen, Sweden.
Nowadays, I mostly make music, as a songwriter, guitarist and producer in the collective of SilverTwins of Funk. The goal of this team is to pay tribute to the originators of the genre of funk, show the world that funk is still alive and to have a world tour booked within 5 years.
